Question

Hello all

Can anyone explain the concept of 3, 6, 9 year contracts. I know it is standard in Belgium but I don't fully understand the concept.

As an Xpat I could leave at any time, so what are the penalties I would have to pay if I left in say 12 months?

Also, how normal is it here for landlords to accept you finding a new tenant? If they are due penalties would they usually just take the money from you and find someone themselves?

After 12 months, you'd have 2 months penalty, plus you need to give 3 calendar months of notice.
.
You absolutely cannot rely on an informal agreement for reducing penalties if you find a new tenant.
