4 weeks between jobs, social security

Question

Dear all,
I finish one job and start another (both in Belgium), however there is a gap of 4 weeks between these employments. I cannot take holiday since it is all used up.
What do I need to do to avoid issues with social security?
I am not a member of a union. Should I join? if yes please suggest one in Ghent area.
Thanks all

Possibly take unpaid leave . If not, sign on at the VDAB for one month. You can also join a union who use to help with these issues, but some of them are weak when it comes to legal law matters to defend you.

Unions are all pretty much the same here. There are many options, I'm with the ACV and never had a problem with them.

Before joining a union , ask at the VDAB , sometimes they are very helpful , and give you the correct answers....

You do not need to work to have social security. I signed up (with a mutuelle) when I first moved here, and I did not have a job, nor any other Belgian income for the first two years. You might need to inform the mutuelle of your temporary change of status, but they continue covering you as long as you pay.
