advice on purchase of french course

Hello,
I'd be grateful if someone could recommend a practical, interesting book+CD beginner's course in French. It's needed as a Christmas present for an adult who knows a few words but who doesn't live near a French-speaking part of Europe.
I'd also be glad to know whether/where I can buy it in Brussels.

Otherwise, if you want to purchase a program in a bricks and mortar type shop, check with Waterstone's or Sterling English Book shops in Brussels.
