American owner of ChatGPT opens office in Brussels
OpenAI, the American artificial intelligence company best known for creating ChatGPT, has announced that it will open an office in Brussels.
In addition to Brussels, new offices will be established in Paris, Seattle, New York and Singapore.
The existing offices in San Francisco, London, Dublin, and Tokyo will be expanded, OpenAI added. The company has already begun the recruitment process in Brussels.
It is likely that the US company chose Brussels for access to the European Union institutions. Earlier this year, the European parliament passed an AI Act that aims to make the EU "a world-class hub for AI [while] ensuring that AI is human-centric and trustworthy".
Meanwhile Paris and London are well-known technological innovation hubs, and Singapore is expected to serve as the company’s Asian base for clients and partners.
OpenAI recently raised $6.6 billion in capital from investors, meaning that the company is valued at $157 billion, and so well placed to extend its AI applications.
This financial gain further confirmed OpenAI’s status as a “Silicon Valley star” and a key player in generative artificial intelligence.
ChatGPT is, in its own words, “an AI language model designed to assist with information, answer questions, and engage in conversation”.
