any expat selling a reliable family car?

Question

I cant find my way around the ads here of cars, they seem to be very old. Is there another place where expats might be selling their cars? I wrecked the engine of my 1 yr old car, so am in need of a reliable car.

thank you Luke, I did not ignore any lights on the dashboard, simply because none started to burn... since my car was very needed (have an autistic boy and often need to drive to doctors) I would not have ignored that. I know the dip stick technique, and yes, I failed to do that. Silly enough I trusted a new car would not have issues!

I must admit, it made me look differently at life! I would only need a car now for trips I want to make, public transport works fine for us to get to work and school, although we live remote!

New car => comprehensive insurance => you should have "protection juridique".

> there was an error with the engine or it would not have been without oil after 25000 km
I agree with that.
Google "kia engine problems"...

I don't know how much paperwork you have on this - letters to and fro etc -- but it might be worth becomi,ng a member of test achats - for legal advice and they may feature your story in their magazine -- certainly your experience has put me off buying a kia!

Goods have to be fit for purpose -- and an engine that runs out of oil from new without any warning sensors going off is not "fit for purpose" (nor would oit be even if the sensors had given warning)

But -- unless you know the person you are buying from or have guaranteed service history -- buying second hand is more of a gamble than buying new (no guarantee privately and a short one from a trader) -- ask friends - colleagues neighbors -- they might know of a good car for sale for a good reason.

And I second J comments -- your insurance should have supported you

Luke, the inexperience and unfriendliness of the kia dealers alone would stop you from buying a kia. ;) its a bit of a story my car. yes, my legal assistance part of my car was contacted. An expert went to check and confirmed what Kia said, engine broken due to no oil. They got me a decent offer to sell it as a wreck. I could have taken the option to have the engine taken out and checked, then I would have had to pay for the work on it. if I could have proven it was an invisible fault I could have gone to court for it. But I have neither the money nor the time to go to court. Then I heard from a colleague my story was only this morning on the radio, in a typical consumers program. unfortunately I have already signed to sell it, but at least KIA has a bit of a blame on their record. I now went to a citroen garage nearby and have an option on a decent C4 picasso from 2010. But not rushing in my decision!

if you are thinking Citroen -- have you considered a Berlingo multispace? I have one from work -- In 3 years Ive done 130k kms. it is a diesel. Usefulness wise -- it is great -- the sliding doors to access the rear seats are a lot easier -- if you need the space the seats can be totally removed -- with seats in place -- (and dog guard) - had our 3 largish dogs in the back with 4 passengers -- Might be worth considering that model -- It is very comfortable for the driver -- but not so in the back. It is a bit plasticy - but does the job. (Peugeot do the same car called the "Partner") (With seats in place but folded - I have carried full pallets of stuff for work!
