Any ideas for fitness groups or personal trainers for 56 year old (not fit) lady

Question

Hi
I am a 56 year old woman and I realise that I am getting overweight and and stiff. I spend a lot of my time sitting because of my job and although I have tried to walk for about a half hour a day I am not very good at keeping it up especially on my own and in dark weather.
Any ideas on groups or other ways I might become more active. I dont want to be with a bunch of young people who are slim and fit and bouncing around. I also dont want to do dancing or aerobics as I have no rhythm. I dont enjoy exercise much but I know I have to do it.
I might consider a personal trainer depending on price but I would prefer a group of people of my own age and state of health, who were doing gentle walks or other similar activities. I live on north side of Brussels and centre or somewhere accessible by public transport would be best as I dont drive.

Offer to walk a neighbours pet dog, or buy your own dog. Swimming and yoga or dancing is also helpful. Little changes can help, like using the stairs instead of lifts or escalators. Try reducing your salt and sugar that is in lots of food and drink products. Swap biscuits for celery sticks or carrots and drink lots of water. Eat more fresh food and avoid eating processed food. At lunch time take a 20 minute walk. Try to do this daily and set yourself achievable goals. When you reach that goal reward yourself and go and visit a place of interest.

The weight issue can only be tackled by modifying your diet sadly. Difficult but do it.
Stiffness and fitness is best tackled by Yoga or Pilates classes. If there are young participants at least they won't be bouncing around and pumping iron. You may not be able to contort your body but it will slowly improve, especially if you stretch every morning. Pilates has done wonders to all my back issues.
Good advice from ANON above.

ADEPS organises walks of 5, 10 and 20 kms every Sunday and on public holidays. Really enjoyable way of seeing some new parts of the Belgian countryside. People of all ages do the walks, some alone, some in groups, some with families. For more info, see http://www.sport-adeps.be/index.php?id=5945

Check out what’s on offer in your local commune’s sports centre. Typically there is a swimming pool plus exercise classes close by. There might be exercise classes offered in your local schools for different age groups, too.
