Atomium celebrates 10 years since renovation

300 balloons were released at the Atomium on the occasion of the 10-year anniversary of the complete renovation of the Brussels monument. The anniversary will be celebrated with various activities throughout the year.

Each balloon was attached to a message of peace, written by visitors from countries such as France, Finland, Slovakia, Greece and the United States. The symbolic action is a reference to the original Expo 58 slogan, 'For a better world'.

The landmark will treat visitors to the free festival 'Rock Around the Atomium' on 13 August, with performances by three Belgian bands. It will also launch a photo contest inviting visitors to submit their best photographs of the Atomium.
