Baby born mid-flight on Brussels-bound aircraft: 'Meet Fanta'

A baby has been safely delivered on board a Brussels Airlines flight between the Senegal capital Dakar and Brussels.

“Welcome to the world, little Fanta!” the company announced in a post on its Facebook page on 14 February.

“Shortly after takeoff, our incredible cabin crew Jennifer, along with a newly graduated nurse and a doctor on board, helped bring this little bundle of joy into the world,” said the airline, adding: “It was a true reflection of teamwork, care, and the extraordinary moments that happen in the sky.”

While most social media followers offered congratulations to the mother and the crew, some speculated if the baby would be entitled to free flights for life.

Although this is thought to be common practice after such a rare occurrence, it is not standard procedure. Brussels Airlines simply said in welcoming little Fanta: "We hope to have you on board again one day.”
