Banks in BE that accept US citizens?

Question

Wondering if any American has recently successfully opening a new bank account in Belgium, and if so at which bank? (I don't have a pre-existing bank account here to simply add on an additional account, I have to start from scratch and finding it tough with the silly new American rules).

Also, has anyone found an online bank operating in Belgium (like Keytrade) that accepts Americans?

it's indeed turning into a problem for Americans, i was a customer of Deutsche Bank for years, but they didn't hesitate to kick me out. i think ING still accepts American customers. I'm with a very small, local bank that doesn't seem to know about the rules. I'm not alerting them :-)
You might have luck with the tiny banks simply because the US isn't yet bothering them? But I have no idea how the US is disseminating or following up on this information.

Both ING and BNP say on their websites that they will open accounts for US citizens. There may be a bit of extra paperwork to do, but that's the price to pay for being a US citizen.

I mentioned this to my bank today and he said that they would take US citizens under certain circumstances with additional charges. No idea what that means. That was ING.

I do know that it makes me laugh like a drain at Americans shouting FREEDOM at the rest of the World when the only other Country on the Planet that refuses to let people fiscally leave the Country is the African banana republic of Eritrea.

Speaking of the "price to pay for being a US citizen" ( I would not pay 10 Cents) it seems that applications for giving up US citizenship have gone through the roof. The government response?

For one, they have made it difficult to provide all the documentation needed and so just refuse to let you leave, and for two, if you managed that, they have increased the cost from something like 400 Dollars to 2350 Dollars.

Land of the free my asp.
