BE citizenship

Question

Hi,

I am 9 years old in Belgium and have applied for Citizenship via
my commune just recently .

How much time will it take to get a response normally ? Does it vary from Commune to Commune ?

The commune said all interactions will be via post .

thanks

R

It all depends in the procedure you chose.

Did you apply by declaration or for a naturalization? For the first one, you are technically belgian the day you make the declaration (basically when you present all the documents to your commune), the commune has then 4 months to give you a positive or negative reply, in my case after 4 months and 5 days they just confirmed with a letter the new nationality and requested to go to their office to issue a new ID card.

The second procedure of naturalisation is much longer and goes through different approvals (outside the commune jurisdiction) and it could take a good two years given the current backlog.

which one did you go for?
