Belgians prefer pork and poultry
Figures from the FPS Economy reveal that Belgians consume more pork and poultry than other meats. Statistics from slaughterhouses confirm the figures, showing that especially poultry is widely consumed in Belgium, writes Het Belang van Limburg.
In August of this year, nearly 25 million animals were slaughtered for consumption in Belgium, more than 2 million more animals than 10 months earlier. The bulk of the animals (23,910,516) were chickens and other fowl.
The second most favoured meat in Belgium is pork, with more than 966,000 pigs slaughtered in August. In the same month, 69,100 cattle were slaughtered, 9,000 sheep and 693 goats. Horse meat is less popular for consumption, with 597 horses slaughtered in August.
