Belgium condemns attack against Egyptian interior minister

Belgian foreign minister Didier Reynders yesterday strongly condemned the attack against the convoy carrying Egyptian interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim (pictured). "The fight against the scourge of terrorism can only be effective if done in accordance with human rights," Reynders said in a statement. After his visit to Egypt in August, Reynders said he remains deeply concerned by the level of violence that continues to affect Egypt and threatens both political and socio-economic stability. He reiterated calls to all parties to renounce violence and to exercise restraint in their response. "The Egyptians must take the path of inclusive dialogue and reconciliation so that the entire population can return to the path of peace, security, prosperity and stability," he added.
