Belgium is world player in high-speed internet

The number of high-speed internet connections in Belgium increased sharply in 2013, so that 35% of the fixed internet connections are now faster than 10 Mbps.

According to a report published by Akamai, a leading provider of cloud services, this puts Belgium in seventh place among countries with a high-speed internet infrastructure. With a growth rate of 123% compared to the end of 2012, Belgium has booked the most progress in the ranking.

The average internet speed in Belgium is 9.8 Mbps, good for eleventh place. At the top of the ranking is South Korea, with 71% of internet traffic above 10 Mbps and an average internet speed of 21.9 Mbps.
