Belgium’s ski hills finally open

11:09 27/01/2014

The ski slopes of Botrange and Mount Rigi in Belgium’s south were opened for the first time Sunday, as temperatures finally reached winter-like conditions. Operators were able to welcome the public after an overnight snow frosting of 13cm.

Although it’s not known as a ski destination, Belgium does offer modest slopes for a little weekend escape with the skis. But this season has been a challenge for the hills due to temperatures far above the winter norm. Even with slopes open for business on the weekend, skiers were limited to only the main ski trails as the smaller routes lacked enough snow.

Unfortunately, the fun appears to be temporary. Although temperatures will remain low throughout the week, with no snow in the forecast the slopes will once again be closed next weekend.
