Bpost to offer 100% emission-free deliveries in Brussels

10:36 31/07/2025

Belgian post delivery service Bpost aims to make all deliveries in Brussels emission-free before the end of the year.

About 85% of parcels and letters today are already delivered emission-free, Bruzz reports, thanks to approximately 500 electric delivery vans in the capital.

With the purchase of 10 additional e-vans, the ultimate goal of 100% emission-free deliveries will be within sight.

These vans will be delivered as part of a national order of 500 new e-vans, which is expected this autumn.

“If everything goes according to plan, we will deliver all parcels in Brussels emission-free before the end of the year,” said spokesperson Mathieu Goedefroy.

The number of electric vehicles at Bpost continues to grow. With a new order for another 500 electric delivery vans, that number will rise to more than 3,000 vehicles this autumn.

The expansion of the Brussels fleet is part of Bpost’s broader climate ambition to achieve emission-free deliveries in 25 major cities, including the Belgian capital, by the end of this year.

Cities such as Mechelen, Leuven, Namur, Mons and Louvain-la-Neuve have already become completely emission-free.

Bpost achieves this with a mix of electric delivery vans, cargo bikes, postal workers on foot and an extensive network of collection points.

Bpost is not alone in its transition, either. Uber also wants to operate emission-free worldwide by 2040.

In Brussels, half of all Uber journeys must be emission-free by this year. Public transport company Stib is also working on replacing 800 diesel buses with electric ones.

This transition is part of the Brussels region’s broader mobility policy, which provides for the gradual phasing out of all diesel and petrol vehicles, in line with agreements on the low emission zone (LEZ).
