Brico reimbursement for purchase

Question

At several occasions, I have been really annoyed by the attitude of the staff at Brico's when I tried to return an article as they demand that the article must be in its original UNOPENED packaging. Today it was a small shelf where I had carefully opened the packaging, so nothing was torn. They still claimed they could not take it back and finally only agreed in view of "exceptional circumstances". I will be more careful before I buy something from them in future. Still, it is true that goods can only be returned in Belgium if they are in their original and unopened packaging?

(The Q&A forum interface has not improved since my last visit ...)

As the law stands, Brico would be quite within their rights to refuse any returns. Same for the UK - you have no statutory right to return stuff and get your money back just because you don't like it or change your mind.
.
Brico go one step further, and give you no quibbles money back on anything that can put straight back on he shelf and sell again (ie. unopened).
.
"I had carefully opened the packaging"
An you still created merry hell until you got your own way.
Spoilt brat.
