Bring my naphews for a short visit
Dear expats,
I just got my nationality granted here in Belgium.
I would like to bring my naphews (They live in Srilanka 11 & 12 yrs old) here during summer just for a short visit. Since they have never been in Europe would be nice to show them around.
Does anyone has personal experience regarding how the process works?
If someone can kindly advice me with your experiences would highly appreacited.
Thank you so much in advance!
Cheers,
H xx
You need to go to the commune and fill out a "prise en charge" by which you take on the responsibility for all their expenses including returning home. That will be legalized at the commune, and you send it to them for making a visa application. You also have to provide them with a bank statement for the last three salaries, and though there is a required minimum, it is not high. But as they are minor, there must be other requirements such as parents' consent. Unless they come with their parents, I think there's little chance.
It's going to be complicated. Because Belgium does not have a consulate in Sri Lanka, your nephews have to apply for a visa via the Swiss consulate in Colombo. See here:

What relevance is your nationality grant?
They have strict rules here about travel of minors with none family member but as youre related that shouldnt be a problem i wouldnt think. Flights they may need to be aa ompanied but airlines do provide this. However you wouldn't be able to travel outside of belgiun easily unless you have the correct visas. Also will you be able to supervise them or do you work? If so what will two bored teenagers do whilst youre out?
