Brussels Midi is Belgium’s busiest station

11:14 25/11/2014

In 2013, Midi (South Station) in Brussels was Belgium’s busiest railway station, with the highest number of passengers per day. On an average weekday, the station accommodates 58,732 travellers, according to a census from October 2013. That is 7.1% more passengers compared to the same month in 2012.

That number puts Brussels Midi at the top of Belgium’s busiest train stations, surpassing Brussels Central Station for first place. Brussels Central Station had 53,542 passengers in 2013, an increase of 1.7% on the previous year.

Hindered by construction works, Gent Sint-Pieters Station saw its passenger numbers last year drop by 8.7% to 49,252 passengers per average weekday. Brussels North is the fourth busiest station with 46,945 passengers, a decrease of 3.9%, followed by Leuven (33,292) and Antwerp Central (32,634).

Belgium’s quietest stations are Hourpes in Wallonia, with 11 passengers per day, and Aalst Kerrebroek with 20 passengers.

The Midi station needs to totally re-vamp its taxi area near the Eurostar exit. The cobblestones are IMPOSSIBLE for everyone with rolling suitcases, one stands in the pouring rain for quite a long time waiting for a taxi, the taxis barely have room to make the turn, individual cars are mixed in with taxis, and it is chaos. This is embarrassing and very "small minded". Most is common sense--what is the problem???
