Brussels New Year's Eve fireworks 'move to Atomium'
Brussels' New Year's Eve fireworks will be at the Atomium this year and not in the city centre because of construction works, Le Soir reports.
The end-of-year festivities moved from the Mont des Arts to the Place de Brouckère in December 2014 - and were cancelled altogether in 2015 following the Paris terror attacks.
According to Le Soir, the decision to move the fireworks again this year is because of works on the pedestrian zone.
As well as the redesign of Place de Brouckère itself, there are several major building projects in the area, including the the demolition of Parking 58 and renovation works at the Bpost headquarters and the new 'The Mint' shopping centre.
The 31 December party in the city centre typically attracts 100,000 people. The Christmas market, Winter Wonders, opens on Friday.
