BXL Commune

Question

Did anyone experience the third world service for residency renewal at Blvd. Anspach 3rd floor?
Seems you have to sleep in front of the building in order to get a number which enables you to get any service.
After 2 hours waiting in line inside at 09:30 they say there are no numbers anymore although they are supposed to work till 12:30, if you object or ask for the person in charge you are whisked off the building by the private security people.
Is this the capital of Europe???

All big cities have their slums and scum, and that's where you've chosen to live.

Brussels region is the capital of Europe. Brussels commune is only 1 of 19 in the region. Try moving to a different commune. I typically am in & out in 20 minutes, and they will talk to me in English.

Get there at 07:50 - wait for 25mins in front of the desk where you get your number. I assure you it is the best and only way. If you don't speak French or Flemish bring somone who does.

Nevertheless, it is a dump of a place with terrible service.

Yes - lived through that for nearly 3 years before moving to a different commune, it's incredible how terrible it is. I think I've spent a good solid work week there, if you add up all the time waiting for numbers, waiting for a turn, getting told I have the wrong documents (even though I have all that the ytold me I needed the last time). Luckily my manager also was a foreigner, also living in 1000, so she understood why it was taking so much time!

I would have gladly given the pickpocket who stole my wallet TWICE the amount of cash that he stole... if I could have just kept my residence permit and not had to go back to Anspach 3rd floor to ask for a replacement!

My only words of advice, bring lots of good MP3s with noise-canceling headphones and a backpack so the person behind you in line doesn't breathe down your neck.

oh yes. thats how city service is.
dont worry if you have to go to US embassy or UK consulate /embassy (for people coming from third countries), its not better or may be slightly better.
And like always everything depends upon the chap who is sitting in front of you in the 'loket'
