calculating bills

Question

Hello Landlords/tenants
A tenant is leaving a rented accommodation a few months after entering; The bills are in the name of the landlord.
For the heating/electricity bills etc - does the landlord calculate according to last year's (2012) tarif - when the tenant entered - or according to this year (as yet an estimation but surely will be quite a bit higher) when he leaves? - The yearly bill arrives from the energy company towards Oct / Nov 2013.
Any firm idea?
Thanks

J

If the bills are not in the tenant's name, then how they are calculated should be detailed in the building's rules. It's a question for the Syndic.

From a practical point of view, the landlord should charge what they will be charged for the period of consumption, which will be the tariff at the time they receive the invoice.

Depending on which energy company is used, it is not certain that the cost rises, some companies have reduced their costs.

For anyone about to rent accommodation - sort these details BEFORE moving in. Saves needless anxiety when you leave the rental.
