Cambio joins push to promote cargo bikes with new rental offer

05:32 29/06/2022

With the support of the Brussels Region, car share company Cambio has extended its rental scheme to include the renting of shared cargo bikes, RTBF reports.

From Tuesday this week, Cambio is providing electric family models of cargo bikes to its members in Jette, in the Miroir car park, and at the Colruyt supermarket in Etterbeek. According to Frédéric Van Malleghem, director of Cambio Brussels, the company aims to develop the service as a complement to shared cars for short trips.

Cambio becomes the latest company to embrace the idea promoted by Brussels Region's Cairgo Bike project, which aims to make the cargo bike an alternative to the car and van to improve the air quality and quality of life in Brussels. Brussels Mobility is coordinating the project with a number of partners to develop an ecosystem of services focused on the needs of users.

According to Brussels Mobility, to encourage the use of this alternative to car use, the Pro Velo association offers Brussels families support as they transition to cargo bikes by offering training courses on how to ride them. Some 185 families have already benefitted from one of these courses. Participants receive a free test cargo bike for two weeks at the end of the training.
