Carte F Travel to London

Question

Good Afternoon! Would anyone happen to know if I can use my Carte F Belgian identity card to travel to London - in lieu of my Russian passport (I would need a visa with solely the passport). I am not sure if my Carte F allows me free movement to England.

Thanks for your help!

Richard

Googled your question and got this from the UK government web site:
I am not a Belgian National but I have a E or E+-Card for EU nationals or an F-Card for non-EU nationals. Can I travel to the UK?

When you arrive in Belgium you are obliged to register at your local commune, and by doing so you will be issued with a Belgian Residence Card. This card is not a valid travel document and you should not attempt to use it as one.

To enter the UK you will need to be in the possession of a valid travel document from your home country and to apply for a visa if necessary.

Guess you need a VISA.

Your Carte F allows you free movement within Belgium and nowhere else. Even for travel within the Schengen zone the rules require you to possess a form of identity issued by the state of which you are a citizen, so even there you need your Russian passport (backed up by your Belgian Carte F to prove your right of residence).

However, the fact that you have a carte F seems to indicate that you have a spouse/partner who is a citizen of a EU country and I believe that that fact, following a recent court case, might be sufficient for you to enter the UK without a visa when accompanying that spouse/partner.

> Carte F Belgian identity card to travel to London
No. It is not valid for international travel. It is not a travel document.

You will need your Russian passport plus a visa. Your Carte F identity card only shows that you are resident in Belgium, it is not a recognised travel document.

I myself possess a F Card and I can tell you than it DOES allow you to travel outside Belgium. It shows that you are a resident in Belgium as a
family member of a EU citizen. And this gives you certain rights. You can travel in all border-free Schengen area. However the UK is an exception as it does not recognize the F Card as a travel document. I've been in Italy, Spain, France, Portugal with my F card without any trouble at all.
