Casa begins 50% clearance sale ahead of closure

09:59 15/04/2025

Bankrupt furniture and design retailer Casa has begun liquidating all of its stock ahead of the chain's imminent closure.

Customers queued from 7.00 and large crowds were reported at Casa stores in Ostend, Bruges and Mechelen, which began their half-price liquidation sale on Monday.

On Friday and Saturday, it will be the turn of the Casa branch on Chaussée d'Ixelles to offer a 50% discount to clear its stock between 10.00 and 16.00.

The clearance sales are being organised by liquidator VP Auctions, which has reported strong interest not just from consumers but retailers in other countries keen to acquire bargain stock.

Interior design retailer Casa filed for bankruptcy in Belgium at the beginning of March after facing debts that it could no longer repay. With the exception of these one-off openings to clear stock, all 63 of its stores have been closed since.

Casa has seven branches in Brussels - on Chaussée d'Ixelles, at Basilix shopping centre (Berchem-Sainte-Agathe), City2 in central Brussels, Chaussée de Wavre in Etterbeek, Rue Vanderkindere in Uccle, Rue de Linthout in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and at Stockel (Woluwe-Saint-Pierre).

Clearance sale dates for the Brussels stores other than Chaussée d'Ixelles have not been communicated.

The Casa branches in Waterloo, Ghent and Turnhout will also be open this Friday and Saturday from 10.00 to 16.00.

Casa was created in Belgium in 1975 and until recently still had about 400 shops in eight European countries, employing some 2,500 people.

Its bankruptcy comes after a period of financial difficulties for the brand, which underwent reorganisation in October 2024 due to significant cashflow problems that threatened the continuity of its activities.

Despite those restructuring efforts and hopes of improvement during the holiday season, the company was unable to turn its financial situation around.
