Cashing a cheque?

Question

I just received a deposit back paid by cheque and it's made out in pounds and was wondering if there was anywhere I can get it cashed.
Can I just walk in to the local bank or do I need an account there?
What about places like the Post Office, Currency Exchange or Western Union?
Would Stonemanor possibly do it?

If anyone knows that'll be great as I haven't seen a cheque in a long time, normally I would just give it to my bank but that is the other side of the world.

Thanks.

By far the best way is to find a friend or colleague who has a UK bank account and who is prepraed to pay it in for you. Any other way is going to cost you a fortune in charges.
The other alternative is to get back to whomever sent you the cheque and ask for a refund by some other means. I assume that you didn't pay your deposit by means of a sterling cheque so it is reasonable to expect them to make a refund by whatever means you did use - credit card, for example.
