Colonoscopy
Question
Hello, everyone,
I've just gotten a referral for a colonoscopy (I have a family history of cancer) and now I'm looking for suggestions where to go. Can you recommend a doctor at St. Luc or some other reliable hospital? How much could the procedure cost (I'm insured)?
Thank you in advance,
Catalina
Hello again,
I was contacted by Dr. Oosterbosch's assistant and made an appointment, but she refused to give me the cost of the consultation. I am a bit confused as it is a factor for me (I have several medical examinations scheduled for April). Could you give me an estimate, Zoe and YTTAP? Thank you.
I did it at Erasme two years ago. I can't remember what they charged but they will tell you, I am sure. In my experience they usually charge the conventioned minimum fee unless you ask for a specific specialist. I had a colonoscopy and a gastroscopy at the same time. It was a 9am appointment. Had to drink the liquid the night before and would not want to do that in the morning just before an afternoon operation as I - sorry for the details - only stopped toilet visits an hour before I had to leave home, and I had to go by metro across town! It was full anaesthesia. I highly recommend full anaesthesia unless you have a medical issue with that as you avoid any embarrassment with the situation. I took the first available doctor there and then the results were sent to my gastro same day. Worked fine and everybody was friendly. I would recommend you to do the colonoscopy with an experienced ops room doctor at a hospital rather than a doctor who spends most of his/her time in consultations. You can always have them send the results to your preferred specialist.
Thank you very much. I only consider full anesthesia, in fact. Having considered all the opinions, I'd say I'll choose a hospital.
