Colruyt plans to sell off its least profitable supermarkets
Belgian supermarket chain Colruyt is looking into selling its least profitable stores and petrol stations in France, citing strong competition there.
The retail group said that it was examining "various strategic options" for its integrated retail activities in France, which include Colruyt stores and DATS 24 service stations.
“In this context, the board of directors has asked to examine different strategic options for the integrated retail activities in France, such as a recovery plan or a disinvestment – in the latter case, Colruyt Group has received expressions of interest,” management said in an announcement.
According to Colruyt, this concerns about 100 shops and 40 DATS 24 service stations which together employ approximately 2,000 people.
“As a people-oriented employer, Colruyt Group will ensure that the continuity of the business and employment are preserved as much as possible,” the retailer added.
