Commune owes me money - what can I do?

Question

Hello,
My jazz combo played for a Brussels commune a few months ago, as part of their festivities. To this day they haven't paid us. We have a written agreement, with a fee agreed, but every time I talk to them they say that payment is imminent. Now it's been two and a half months and we need the money.
Who can I turn to? Thanks

J

The written agreement stated when you should be paid? Send them a reminder, and include the interest for late payment that they now owe you ( 7% APR?). That usually prompts action.

Thanks J. The written agreement did not specify when we would be paid. In ensuing correspondence from the commune, however, they did say on several occasions that payment was a matter of days away. That was more than two months ago. We will ask them for interest indeed, good idea. Is 7% APR the going rate for such matters? Thanks again.

Then is was due immediately, allowing a reasonable delay from when the invoice was issued. 30 days from invoice date?

A letter from a lawyer might get a prompt response. But check the cost of lawyer beforehand. Call a lawyer, explain very briefly and tell him/her that you just want a letter.
