communes - Saint-Josse-ten-Noode

Question

Hello,

Does anyone live in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode?

I am curious for the commune (administration issues) if it is ok?
I am considering to move to this commune from Saint Gilles.

R

I used to live there a good ten years ago, the Commune was ok, very multietnic, therefore there were lots of "special cases" with complicate issues always in front of you when queueing at the Commune so it would take a bit to get your stuff done but to be honest I dont think it is very different from Saint Gilles in terms of multietnicity.

Anyway there I learnt that you have to go half an hour or more before opening time armed with a nice book and ensure you are one of the first in line.

The commune itself it changed a lot in this ten years and is becoming quite a good place to live considered its proximity to the Centre. Better are the areas around Rue de la Loi than those around Gare du Nord still a bit problematic.

I have been living in st. Josse for the past 19 years, and just love it. Yes, it is the most densily populated, the poorest, but by far the most multi-cultural commune of all.
Is is also very centrally located, near public transporation and walking distance from the city center.
This Summer, for the first time in 19 years, I took my camera and went for a long long walk. I was so happy with the result, I vene loved it more !

I also lived in St. Josse up until 1999, and liked it a lot. However, lost capital when selling property! If you are renting, no problem.

I lived very close to St-Josse 10 years ago, just over the "border" across bd Bischoffsheim in 1000 Brussels. I did not like St-Josse AT ALL: dirty, overpopulated, bad traffic and if you want to meet Belgians they are a minority. Personally I think St Gilles or the center of Brussels around Dansaert are hipper and cooler.

Thanks, I am enjoying St. Gilles since 8 years. It is more trendy now and I can not find furnished properties that are under my budget. Ixelles is another option for me. For St-Josse, center is very near by walking distance but I feel it will not be very pleasant during the night (near Rogier area).

furnished properties are much more expensive because the landlord has to pay taxes on the rent received; while unfurnished are tax free.

my suggestion is to rent an empty property and then get your own furniture, plenty of nice and cheap stuff on ebay, kapaza, 2ememain etc etc...

with a bit of taste you can have quite a nice of with the extra money you pay for a furnished property.
