Construction noise

Question

hi,

In the street where I am living a new construction has started and the builders have put a Diesel generator right outside my window. The noise is incessant from morning to afternoon and it leaves me incredibly stressed - I imagine it is somewhat like suffering from tinnitus. Is this kind of noise harassment legal?

Thanks in advance for all replies

My advice would be the following:
1) If you haven't already, speak to the builders and explain about the noise and ask if something can be done.

2) If the generator is on the pavement, or is on a road where they have put up temporary no parking signs, then they will have had to get permission from the commune. I would speak to the commune and ask them about what the conditions are for the builders.

Otherwise, there's not really much you can do.

There are strict rules as to when construction noise is permitted but for sure it is permitted during the normal working day.
As anon suggests, you can ask them if they can consider your situation but they have a right to carry out their work so, if they won't help you, there is nothing that you can do so long as they stick to the permitted hours which you can check out with your commune.
