controle technique
hi,Last time i was at the controle technique they told me to keep an eye on my tyres for next year as they were wearing down. So off i went and bought 4 brand new tyres and went today and they told me they are the wrong dimensions. When i look at the certificate de conformité it shows a slightly different tyre size. Online i see that The tyres that i bought are the same ones that were on the vehicle when i bought it second hand two years ago and i just asked my very nice tyre man to put the same ones on. Anyone know what can be done if anything? another example of crap belgian admin, if they had said it to the guy who did the original controle it would be no prob as the right tyres would have been on the car.
Looks like you've been a side victim to a known method of going around the controle technique requirements whereby someone is changing the tires by borrowing some that fit just to pass the controle technique and then switching back to the ones that are either over-used or unfit due to size specifications. Not many solutions to that... you can sing the same song and try to cheat the CT this way but do not forget that in case of any accident involving your car you may be at danger that the insurers would not pay because of use of non-conforming parts on your car. Do not underestimate the risk of using different sized tires - they can lead to suspension, direction issues.
It seems that you are going to have to buy another 4 tyres in order to pass the CT so your problem is how to minimise your outlay.
All you can do is go back to the very nice tyre man and explain the situation and hope that he will give you a decent price for the 'wrong' set. If they have only been used for a few days you should be in luck; if you have been using them since your last CT you will just have to hope for the best but whichever applies, you have to buy another 4 tyres.
