Cost of installing a water softening system
Hi CMH. I don't know the price, but a few things to ask is this your apartment or rented? If rented you would need to get written permission from the landlord for anything you do like this. Also if if its yours you need to check the conditions of what you can do via the syndi or management conditions.
Also water softener so are pretty big pieces of kit, I hope you have a massive space to put one in. Then there's the cost of adding salt. They aren't cheap to install or run.
Maybe just buy a machine to make your own distiller water. Other idea get to a local hair dresser and ask for advice on the best shampoo for your hair and water type. My hair is very dry too, I just put it down to my age so I add a hot mask to supplement it.
Hi,
we were just quoted around 1.500€ from Apic, http://apicbelgium.be/ for a 200sqm house and four people. The salt costs about 15€ per year, they offer maintenance visits every two years that come to about 150€ and cover you in case of damage or loss of function. Hope that helps.
oh yeah, there are cheaper systems for flats or smaller houses, and the size is around 30x30x70 centimeters - pretty small really.
Felix I'm amazed at the salt cost being so low we had one used to go through bags of the stuff and had to cart it down a very steep drive or cellar steps. Well in excess of the €15 you quote. Have you used apic?
Hi CC_R,
no, haven't used them yet but that was the quote we got 2 weeks ago. Just checked again and the nice apic man wrote "± 15€ for 6 sacks of salt per year" - estimate, of course.
We got a company called Minimax to install a water softener system in our house about a year and a half ago. Very impressed with the service. They give you a supply of salt at the beginning and told us it would last around a year (it depends on your usage and the hardness of the water in your area). When the salt runs out you ring them and they come and give the machine a service and supply more salt. The service cost 115 euro. The first supply of salt lasted about 16 months.
