Leuven has a ring road.
On a clock face the bus and railway staions are at 3 and the canal starts and ends at 12 at a street called Vaartkom.
The canal runs north-west to Mechelen, not Brussels. I have walked most of the length - not in one go! There is a path on a least one side for the whole length.
And BTW, that would be 'fiets' - cycle in Dutch.
