Decathlon bikes and pumps

Question

Hello,
Can anyone tell me whether only Decathlon pumps can be used on their tyres? I ask because I bought a so-called "universal" pump (haha) for 35/40€ from the bike shop near Merode and the attachment doesn't screw onto the valve of my Decathlon bike. *expletive*

All pumps should inflate all tyres.
However, tyre valves come in two types and you may need a converter.
The two types are Presta, small and narrow, used mainly on racing style tyres. Schrader, which are the same as car tyre valves, widely used now.
A 'universal' pump should have the necessary small converter, it may well be Schrader without the adapter and Presta with.

Mark, you're blinding me with science here! Thank you for your educational and useful answer. I'm going to fish the pump out of the bin...

If it is a mini pump, opposed to a floor one, more often than not you will find that you will be able to unscrew the valve fitting and inside there will be a small circular bit of plastic. Take it out, put the cap back and then you will be able to fit your larger valve into the hole.

Alternatively, if the pump cost you €40, it would be cheaper to buy two new inner tubes with the correct fitting value. Almost all tubes can be bought with either valves.
