Driving practice

Question

Hi all,

I have completed 20 hours of driving lessons with a school in Brussels and now have a provisional licence that allows me to drive on my own (at certain times). However, I do not have a car and neither do any of my friends here, which means that I am not able to practice in order to improve and take the practical test. I am sure that I am not the first person who found themselves in this situation in Brussels and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to get around this problem?

Thanks in advance!

Have you asked the driving school what they recommend?

Send an email and ask Europe Direct to give you a helpful answer and direct you to somebody who can give a solution to this problem in Belgium.
http://europa.eu/europedirect/meet_us/index_en.htm

If you don't ask, you don't know, you don't get. As EU citizens we all pay 75cents per day for this free service, so use it for all types of issues.
The comforting fact is that you are not the only person with this situation.

I used Europe Directs services to find out where I could complain about the high telecommunication costs in Belgium (France offers a cheaper telecommunication package for less than €14 per month (TV, GSM, Internet and telephone (inside France it is free to call certain French regions or free telephone usage for all of France). I was directed to different websites and sent some emails to some MEPs. Slowly telecommunication and television costs in Belgium are reducing their sky high costs which is also thanks to the MEPs and their families also facing this problem.

If you don't have enough money to buy or rent a car then you can always try and barter your services in exchange for drive time.

Google 'troc services particuliers' on google.be, filter for Belgium.

Or you can ask around people you know, tweet it, FB it etc.

It's possible to buy a car with only a provisional licence, but is it possible to get insurance? I thought that was the main obstacle.

the person who recommends using Europe Direct is wildly incorrect and intentionally misunderstanding the purpose of the service. If it really costs 75c a day then that is 138 billion euros a year. That's larger than the EC budget dickhead. It is intended to help people with real problem at a European level, not to do the work for someone who is too tired (or just incapable) to look up the name of his MEP. Poor MEP

To address the question in hand though - when I had this problem i asked an experienced driver to hire a car for me with a second driver, and yes it is expensive so I drove all day to get the practice....
