E+ card
Hi all,
after legal 5 years of residency my partner requested permament residency in BE (BRU 1000) and the deadline for the answer is approaching. There is still no news about this from the commune. So my questions to those who went through similar process in the 1000 commune:
- how does he know the decision been made?
- where he needs to get his E+ card in case it granted: in the foreigners department (3rd floor) or already in citizens department (2nd floor)?

This can take four to six months, when approved you will reciceve a letter, take this to the Commune and ask at the front desk, they will direct you to the correct department / window.
As an E+ card holder he will still be a foreigner. The E+ card makes little or no difference to everyday life in practice.
Don't expect a letter. If you've heard nothing in 5 months, it is approved.
E+ card grants permanent rights, entitles you to social help if you ever fall on hard times, entitles you to apply for social housing, gives you rights to remain permanently in Belgium, unless you've gone on to commit serious crimes.
Actually, you don't need to do anything until you hear from the commune or your existing E card nears its expiry date. You don't actually NEED the E+ card in your hand, your existing E card should suffice until it needs renewal when you will automatically get an E+ card. It is just possible in the meantime that your existing E card (chip) will cease to function, if that happens then you will have to go to the commune but still the foreigners section, I am afraid.
