Electrician - Waterloo - urgently needed

Question

Can anyone recommend an electrician in Waterloo? A couple of very small jobs (instaling ceiling lights) but the ones I called from the phone book cited exorbitant prices. Thanks in advance.

Qualified electricians tend to have enough work on not to need to do DIY jobs. Bu I see you've had a cowboy offer to get it done illegally.

Want to hear my sad story of the xpat 'qualified electrician' who turned out to be not-yet-registered. As he left he said in passing "Oh by the way don't touch your kitchen tap or you'll get a shock" !

Sorry to be a drag, but electrics done by a cowboy cause housefires and your insurance won't cover it.

Now I can recommend a very good electrician BUT he doesn't live near Waterloo
so - to avoid having to pay a man his time & diesel to drive to you, be pragmatic and look for a qualified electrician near you, in Yellow Pages or online Pages D'Or you will be able to see the postcodes of electricians listed.
Call at least five and ask what they charge per hour for these small jobs & ask what their charge for "deplacement" call out charge is.
When believing a price is too high - ask yourself "how much would I want to be paid for delivering my time, diesel, tools (hugely expensive), expertise & experience. It's not the time spent at your home that counts, s/he also has to count the wasted time between clients. S/he can't always have 6 tiny clients in one day, small jobs = loss of work/income to a tradesman.
P.S. Si Senior services via BRICO will give you an idea of real price of expertise for all trades today. Pick up a brochure but sit down before you read it.

I was discussing prices with a local guy who was doing some work in the house and he explained that kids today want to work in an office with a computer; they don't want to be doing basic manual jobs. (Ask yourself what the teenagers in your family/known to you want to do.)
The result is that those who are already doing this kind of work have more jobs than they need and can charge what they want. And they DON'T want jobs that are only going to take a couple of hours to complete unless they can charge at least half a day.
The high prices that you have been quoted are almost certainly because they aren't interested rather than a fair price for the job.
