Employee Notice Period

Question

Hi all, I have been working in a firm for the last almost 19 years. Now I am looking to change my job. I've checked on the notice period and understood that will have 13 weeks minimum. Is this correct?

I guess this could be negotiated with your employer. Many thanks for your input on this.

13 weeks sounds correct.

As for negotiation, yes, anything can be negotiated, but you won't find your employer's answer here.

i do not know about your salary and your motivations to leave the company but are you sure is the right move considering that for instance if you get dismissed you might get a huge compensation calculated on the old Claeys formula which changed in Jan 2014? This doesn't happen if you leave your job voluntarily.

But as I said it is your decision and you know your motivations.

I just wrote it in case you were not aware.

FYI in the Claeys website you can also calculate the notice period.

Watch out! If you voluntarily leave your job and can't find work you might not be entitled to receive any unemployment benefits, medical insurance or pension in Belgium. If the company fires you then you have 3 working days to go to the government unemployment services and announce yourself.
Ask your union to confirm what your notice period would be.
