15 tonnes of contraband tobacco seized in the port of Zeebrugge

Belgian customs have seized 15 tonnes of contraband loose tobacco, the Finance ministry has announced.

Customs officers targeted an unaccompanied trailer located in the Flemish port of Zeebrugge with the inspection uncovering a high quantity of undeclared tobacco.

The pallets containing boxes filled with Turner and Flandria branded tobacco were concealed behind rolls of insulating material. 

In total, 25 pallets were discovered, each containing a shipment of 120 boxes weighing five kilograms each. “The investigation into the origin and destination of the shipment is ongoing,” according to the ministry’s press release.
