Firefighters evacuated people stuck for hours during bad weather conditions in a blocked roller coaster at Plopsaland De Panne on Saturday evening.

A crisis unit was set up at the theme park to coordinate the rescue of seven people trapped 32m high in the Ride to Happiness roller coaster.

The rescue mission was carried out in two stages. The first two passengers were freed at 21.50, the remaining five at around 23.30, according to Westhoek fire department.

They were all in good health, but taken to hospital for medical checks.

The Plopsaland theme park on Belgium’s coast opened the Ride to Happiness spinning roller coaster in July 2021.
