Question

Friends of ours who used to live in Belgium were made unemployed and had to move back to the UK. They still owed their Belgian bank money, they tried to agree a payment plan with the bank but the bank has refused the amount and has threatened to go to their UK employers to seize their salary. Can a Belgian Bank seize a person's salary from overseas? They are obviously very concerned as they are not on a large salary and have two children, added to this they are still within their probation period with their new employers. Very grateful for any good advice.

Any Belgian bank that is owed money would take this up with the National Bank of Belgium http://www.nbb.be
They would then follow the debt up no matter what country the people concerned resides.
They would have the right to take any repayment direct from salary
