giving birth in Brussel

Question

Does anyone know how we should proceed for giving birth in Brussel but not having a mutual medical insurance? The mother is from an EU country. Should we go for a private medical insurance? What are the alternatives and which hospital should we choose where the costs will not be so high and the doctors and nurses can speak in English?
Do we need a long time in advance appointment for this? I have heard a lot of things not to pleasant about this subject. Can you share your experiences with me?
Thanks

J

You need to make sure you get coverd BEFORE you are pregnant. Coming from another EU country, you ought to have registered with a Mutuelle when you got here. Go and do that now.
.
Unfortunately, you don't explain how you came to not have healthcare cover. The only reasons I can think of is either you were unaware of the requirement to register with a Mutuelle, or you are here illegally.

That must depand on who you talk to. We had a very positive experience, some bits were confusing, as it's not the way things happened in previous country of residence, but the quality of care was excellent, and costs very reasonable.
