Home electrical system conformance - Do you know a good electrician?

Question

Hi all, we recently bought a house and now have around 16 months to obtain a conformance certificate for the electrical system. This is due to the house changing owners after a law was drafted (in 2007?). We already know that the fuse box needs changing. Possibly other work is required.

Could you recommend a certified reliable company that can carry out these works?

Also, did any of you have to deal with the conformance problem before? Any pitfalls to avoid?

Thanks!

We bought our house in 2011 and the sellers were obligated to have such a conformity control carried out so that they may sell the house.
I'm surprised that you did not get such a report when you bought yours.
Mine had infractions to the standard, both heavy and light and you get 18 months from the date of purchase to sort it out.
I'm past the 18 months already! But am working on it myself. I've done the 2 downstairs rooms and the bedrooms and the loft.
I bought all my materials from a company called "selfmatic". They give you an evenings tuition, sell all AREI conform material and give you support on the telepone whenever you need it during your installation. You also get a very good instruction book on how to do it.
It's not as bad as you may think and as they say... if you want a job doing properly, do it yourself ;)
It helps that I can plaster as well :)
As long as you work to the AREI standard (downloadable and you can call them for questions too) then it's a doddle!
All you have to do is draw up a plan cut the cable channels and lay the cables as per your plan. It's great, really enjoying it and the satisfaction I've done it all myself... :D
If you can wait a few months I'll come and do yours after if you like, for a price of course (but likely less than an electrician). Selfmatic also come and check your work after your done BEFORE the main control from AREI and they draw up all the electrical schemes for you too :)

Sorry I didn't explain well. The seller did provide the certificate however it states that the electrical system is non-conformant. We now have to sort out the irregularities (one being totally changing the fuse box). Other irregularities are listed on the certificate, but they sound too technical. Can't tell whether they are serious or not.

Thanks.

Well, I think you explained pretty well because that's what I understood from you as well!

I also got that electrical inspection certificate and there were some breaches regarding the AREI standard.

One being that there were some sockets present with earthing pins but there is no earth in the house!

Therefore I decided to rewire the whole house and do an earth at the same time. I'm probably driving the earthing pins into the ground this weekend!

I'm also taking the opportunity to install some things that will make it really nice - electrical supply to all windows so I can have electric roller shutters, loudspeaker cable points for home theatre in living, Cables ready for the alarm sensors in each room, as well as all light switches being semi domotica (low voltage relay system)

You just want a translation so you know what you got to do?
You can send it to me if you like and I can tell you what things are not conform - markcbr600 AT hotmail.com

If you have to replace the whole fusebox it probably means that some of your wiring is inadequate too.
