House Location for a work location in Ans

Question

Dear All,

I seek your inputs on my query. Being new to liege with no French knowledge, my work location is located in Ans, (bus route 88). Hence, which area is ideal for living.

Living in Ans is going to be give a short journey to my daily work location with half an hour journey with cheaper rentals. Colruyt at Ans Rue de la Station will be ideal for weekly groceries. However, Can I be getting enough support from the french community at necessities like bank, hospital, internet/mobile service providers to speak in English. Please suggest me if my understanding about Ans is true.

If I opt Liege, with no doubt I may find some support from French community in the form of some English speakers. However, it may take an hour or more journey with high rentals. Also its trivial to travel daily for no reason if I am gonna get good place at Ans. Also liege has more housing options than Ans.

Also, we have a little baby. Hence, we may need to take care of hospitals. I see no hospitals in Ans.

Appreciate your critics about both choices (Ans vs Liege).

Dear RajNag & family,
to be honest, I do not really understand your questions. The issues you mention ...the bare necessities ...are mostly done in 1-2 weeks and finished, Google translate / a good oldfashioned dictionary to prepare your letters and communications with the related business partners or a colleague helping ...and registered / set-up.

For me would be much more important the question on your daily life in a small Francophone town for your spouse & child (there is a communal creche and a point medicale in Ans).
Does she speak French, is she/he working or'sitting at home' allday? In that position I would damm go crazy in the middle of nowhere.
You talk only about a bus connection - are you aware of the bus schedules in the evenings / the weekends ? May be you will be stuck than - most Belgians in the country side have to rely heavily on a car!

I think, I would start immediately with a total immersion course for you and spouse for a minimum of 3 months and commute, than review the situation and decide. But that's me.

Just my 2 cents - good luck, xl

Thanks a ton XL for your comments.

Neither of us speak french.

From your reasoning, i would say it is preferable to live in Liege, to be near to necessities having a preference about my daily commuting.

Also, My wife will join me in 3 months. From that point on wards my infant need scheduled vaccinations. Just now i had called the CHU, liege. They say some doctor will be there to assist English speakers. oooofffff... really thats a big relief.

I have decided to stay in liege than Ans.
