Id card renewal

Question

Hello xpats,
My Belgian Commne ID card expires in 3 months and I need to renew it. The problem is that my Commune is the City of Brussels (1000), the worst Commune ever :-)
I am dreading to go there and queue from 6am in the morning. Is there an easier way to renew the card? For example an online option? Will they contact me shortly before the card expires asking me to renew it?
Thanks a lot for any advice.

Finn

The City of Brussels has "antennas" i.e. several smaller offices that you can use in order to avoid going to the town hall itself (http://www.brussels.be/artdet.cfm?id=5155&)

If I'm not mistaken they send you an invitation to renew it with an appointment hour. Or you can go yourself before they send it. On thursdays they work longer hours also in the afternoon; so it can be an option for you?

If you are British, I don't think the Commune sends you a reminder to renew your ID card! Why, because you can live here with your passport as an identity document. But if you want to do things online using and EID reader and use your ID card in the Post Office or in the Pharmacy then of course you will need to have an up-to-date Belgian ID card.
