Independent or Company

Question

Hi

If I become a contractor, is it better to be an independent or create a management Company. Is there a rule of thumb income that would define when it would make financial sense to create a Company ?

Thanks

There is no specific rule of thumb as it will depend on what you're doing, your level of income, the level of rebillable expenses you have, the level of deductibles you will be able to generate, etc. etc.

Best go and talk to an accountant.

Yes - talk to several accountants - you are likely to get several answers.

I recently went to a "lecture" at ING bank about setting up a company here and their rule of thumb was: if you clear - after everything - less than €70,000 you are better off tax wise to be independent.

When you ask an accountant, just be careful to know if they have an interest in either option....
