'Influencer' who posted videos speeding through Brussels freed from prison under electronic tag

13:53 02/03/2024

A man suspected of filming himself speeding through the streets of Brussels at up to 250km/h last summer has been released from prison under conditions.

One of those conditions is that he remains under electronic surveillance.

The man, who considers himself a social media influencer, posted several videos online showing him committing numerous traffic offences.

“These included speeding and dangerous overtaking manoeuvres,” the Brussels prosecutor's office said.

“The offender filmed what he did and published his own videos on social networks where he was followed by more than 40,000 people.”

It is reported that he rented "more than 70 sports cars" over the past two years, registered in Poland and Germany.

The man was caught in a police operation in early December while behind the wheel of a rental car, despite the fact that he was banned from driving at the time.

The man asked to be released from pre-trial detention in Haren prison earlier this month. Meanwhile, the investigation continues.
