Insurance - What? Who? How Much?

Question

I'm renting an apartment, and I understand I'm required to get insurance.

Is anybody able to brief me on what insurance is required, who are good to get it from and an indication of how much it'll cost?

Fill this in. Not a recommendation - just a radio add.

It's against flood or fire or whatever. You can probably get it through your bank or any insurance company will do. Cost depends on size of apartment, somewhere from less than 100 € per year for a small apartment to over 200 for a three or four bedroom "belle étage" three-floor house.

We contacted a local insurance broker who came to assess the property and gave us a quote.
Your contract will require you to insure the building against any loss that the owner might suffer. Insuring the contents is a separate matter and optional - you can take the risk of losing things in a fire or burglary or insure them.
