Issue with post man

Question

Hi we live in rural area but it is a more main road so some traffic, the local postman has a habit to leave large parcels on the doorstep if I'm out. Happened a few times last year. Our house garden is open park at the front do anyone passing could pull over and take them. Some days he leaves them if no car is there I think he believes dogs barking mean we are in.
This week I was in but he rung the door bell and was gone before I came to answer so he didn't know that I was there and the stuff in there was extremely expensive due to a typo on my order form. How do I complain I can't make heads or tails of the webpages in Flemish

You don't need to speak Dutch to complain about a delivery - you can do it in French as well.

The rules governing how your postman works say that, if a parcel will not fit in your mail box, he should leave a note asking you to collect the item from a specified post office - typically at any time after 15.00 on the same day.
He is under no obligation to come to the door but in rural areas they often do to save the customer the inconvenience of a trip to the post office. (I, too, live in a rural area and on a main road. My postlady always comes to the door if there is a parcel and I'm fortunate to live next door to a hairdresser so there is always someone available to take a delivery if I am out.)
If you complain, he may find himself in trouble because he has taken time to try to help you. In your situation I would first talk to the guy and explain that you would rather make a trip to the post office than risk loosing a parcel.

Living in a very similar situation (rural village, main road), I agree totally with Kasseistamper. The postman is trying to be helpful - and the fact that he leaves the parcel indicates that he doesn't expect it to go walkabout, rural dwellers tend to be ultra-honest - so just have a word with him. There may be a neighbour who is almost always in and leaving it their may be better than taking it to the gemeente's post office, particularly as, in our case at least, the delivery is never available there before the next day.

You can just write a letter in English and drop it off at the counter of your local post office. I'd suggest something like this:

Dear Sir/Madam,
I'd like to complain in the strongest possible terms about your postman who delivers parcels to our house. What's more, when we're out, he also tries to be helpful by leaving the parcels at the house. This is an absolute disgrace. I want the postman to immediately stop delivering to my house, and if there is a parcel and we're out, I want him to take it back to the post office so that I can't get it till the next working day (or three days later if it's a Friday), and have to endure the long queues at inconvenient times of the day when you're open.
Regards,

dear anon of you want to be rude present sign so I know whose having a go at me.
I have been sometimes asked to travel the seven KM to the nearest post office to collect. I don't mind doing that. We have a gate I wouldn't mind if he popped over that it's the leaving it out front on the step I object to.
We have had crime round here they cut our fence and stole a trailer from our yard one night.
The last parcel was worth over €1000 due a typo in the order and had it gone walking then the vendor would have been rightly upset.
I have had stuff stolen by BPost and letters from them saying the police found my address on tampered with mail, so I have a low opinion of them.
We aren't talking about something the size of a book this thing was 60cmX 90cm or bigger quite a large box. Sitting out there.
I wouldn't mind if they asked me what to do if I was out but they didn't and they have even done this on signed for packets.
I am so wary that I drove for one hour to return the items that were ordered in error rather than trust them to B post.

Also this is not the regular postie who comes on a bike or motto this is the guy in a van who does the big stuff, in fact the only time he rung my bell was when there was import duty owing strange that he can wait till I'm in when money is owed but not when it isn't. We also have a mobile phone lost in transit from UK at moment and how do I know that wasn't just dumped?
