Large-scale clean-up operation around Boulevard du Midi

10:12 27/03/2026

The City of Brussels, together with regional services and the police, carried out a major inspection and clean-up operation on Boulevard du Midi on Monday.

“We were able to remove and identify 580kg of fly-tipped waste near Boulevard du Midi,” said Andreas De Kerpel, spokesperson for Brussels’ alderman for public cleanliness, Anas Ben Abdelmoumen (PS).

“This resulted in a total of €3,250 in fines. Among other things, this included illegally dumped chairs from a cafe on Boulevard du Midi.”

The operation took place throughout the morning near the railway bridge at Brussels-Midi rail station, Bruzz reports, and targeted individuals illegally dumping waste along the inner ring road.

The clean-up focused primarily on vans, which the authorities suspected were being used for the illegal dumping of waste.

“We checked the vans present to see if they were transporting illegal waste to be dumped,” said De Kerpel.

“The operation consists of two parts: a systematic inspection of the vans present, and a large-scale clean-up operation, carried out by the city and regional cleaning teams.”

This was a coordinated effort in which the City’s public cleanliness department worked alongside the police and customs, as well as teams from the regional agencies Bruxelles Propreté and Brussels Mobility.

This is the second coordinated inspection operation at that location this year, according to the alderman’s office. A similar operation took place in January.
